ABSTRACT

Salento Bici Tour is a unique initiative, combining a non-profit organization and a tour operator, born from the passion and vision of two young Apulians, Carlo and Francesco, in 2011. Joined by Giulia and later supported by others, they formed an association aimed at promoting cycling as a mode of transportation and developing cycle tourism in Apulia.

In 2014, this dedicated group expanded their efforts by establishing “I slow you,” a specialized tour operator offering cycling and walking tours. Their mission extends beyond tourism, seeking to cultivate a deeper understanding and appreciation of Apulia’s landscape while supporting local businesses and initiatives.

Salento Bici Tour organizes bike tours and daily excursions, inviting participants to experience Apulia’s hidden gems at a leisurely pace, engaging all senses along the way. Their overarching goal is to advocate for a lifestyle focused on reducing consumption and energy usage, combatting environmental degradation, and fostering a greater awareness of our impact on the planet. By promoting biking as a means of exploration, Salento Bici Tours aim to reconnect individuals with the natural beauty and cultural richness of Apulia, offering a truly immersive experience for both visitors and locals alike.

We did the classic Salento bici tour, 6 days on the bike. The route was almost always on the coast, and the view to the ocean was breathtaking. Everything was well organized. The hotels were charming and with good value for money, the crew was always available. The towns in Puglia were historical, and really pretty! We had an amazing time! It was a bit too hot, so if you can, go in May or early June.

Brilliantly organised 7-day, 300km self-guided food and wine tour of Salento. All the team at Salento were knowledgeable, helpful, cheerful and friendly. The bikes (one electric, one push) were well maintained and equal to the task. Baggage transfer was reliable and the accommodation, restaurants and tasting visits were all enjoyable. Highly recommended.

We spent 8 days riding a loop from Lecce around southern Puglia - it was amazing! The e-bikes were great. The organisation, food and accomodation- ideal. Environment - local cuisine & culture drive the Salento Bicol Tour people. Carlo and his team are wonderful.
